Where on Your Body Can You Get Liposuction?

Liposuction is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States, designed for helping women and men get rid of stubborn areas of fat that don’t respond to diet and exercise. If there are areas of the body you would like to be slimmer, our liposuction plastic surgeon in Raleigh is sharing the areas where you can have lipo performed as well as other procedures that work in conjunction with it to help you achieve your ideal figure.

What Does Liposuction Do?

Before we look at where on the body lipo is performed, it’s important to understand what the goals of this procedure are and what kind of results patients can expect. Lipo is not meant to be a substitute for bariatric surgery or diet and weight loss. In fact, most patients don’t lose more than a few pounds by having this procedure performed.

Instead, liposuction surgery removes those areas of  excess body fat located under the skin but above the muscle layer that no amount of diet or exercise seem to budge. For people with a stable body weight who choose this procedure, the end result is a more contoured figure that appears slimmer and smoother.

Areas of the Body Where Liposuction can Be Done

Because liposuction surgery is minimally invasive procedure that removes fat that lies just below the skin, it can be applied to numerous areas of the body, including:

Around the Waist

The sides of the waist, often called “love handles” are one of the most requested areas. Not only is fat in this area notoriously difficult to remove without assistance, but it can cause unsightly bulges. By removing the love handles, patients can achieve a more defined, contoured waistline.

Abdomen

Both the upper abdomen – the area between the navel and the ribs, and the lower abdomen – the area below the navel, are areas where fat is difficult to lose, especially as we age or after childbirth. Removing fat here can eliminate the “muffin top” and provide a slimmer silhouette and a flatter tummy. When choosing liposuction or a tummy tuck, it really depends on your goals. This option is a less invasive procedure than a tummy tuck, which removes excess skin and reshapes the muscles while lipo only removes fat.

Hips and Buttocks

For a more defined shape that smoothes the curves around the hips and buttocks, lipo can remove the excess fat deposits that can cause dimples and bulges. Patients who wish for rounder, more shapely buttocks can combine the lipo with a Brazilian butt lift to reshape the area.

Back

Many women are self-conscious of how they look from the back, especially if they have excess fat on the back that is pushed over or under where their bra lies. For a smoother outline and a firmer shape, lipo can remove back fat and eliminate rolls.

Face

While it’s not one of the more common areas, patients who are self conscious about “chubby cheeks” or areas of neck fat can choose to have this done for a more contoured, youthful face.

Thighs

Fat can deposit in both the outer thigh area, often called “saddle bags,” and the inner thigh area. For more toned, smoother-shaped legs, our liposuction plastic surgeon can remove fat here and if there is loose or sagging skin, can also provide a thigh lift to rejuvenate their appearance.

Upper Arms

Over time, fat and loose skin can settle under the upper arms, creating what are known as “bat wings.” Lipo eliminates the arm jiggle, leaving our patients with smoother arms they can feel confident in.
