Having excessively large or disproportionate breasts can create several challenges, such as physical discomfort, emotional distress, lack of self-esteem, and interference with common, daily activities. Dr. Ortiz, a board-certified and internationally recognized Raleigh plastic surgeon, has helped numerous women improve the quality of their life and boost their self-confidence by eliminating the pain associated with excessively large breasts and decreasing them to a desired size.
Breast reduction surgery, also referred to as reduction mammaplasty, is an effective procedure designed to remove excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin from a women’s breasts. Women generally receive a breast reduction to acquire more proportionate breasts in relation to their bodies or to eliminate the pain that can arise from excessively large breasts, which is also known as macromastia.
During this procedure, Dr. Ortiz will surgically remove excess fat, tissue, and skin through meticulously placed incisions on your breasts. Depending on the particular circumstances, liposuction may be used in conjunction with the manual removal technique. Dr. Ortiz will examine your individual situation to determine which method is the safest and most suitable for you and ensure that you receive the best possible outcome. Once the procedure is complete, the results are immediately and noticeably visible, and patients will leave with reduced, pain-free breasts. While breast reduction is not typically covered by insurance, it may be covered if it is deemed medically necessary. We recommend learning more about insurance coverage for breast reductions and discussing the procedure with your primary care doctor and insurance provider.
